Japan, 〒943-0835 Niigata, Joetsu, Motoshirochō, 44−1
Description
Overview
The “Bamboo Lantern-Flickering Covered Street Project Kick-off Concert” is a historic milestone community performance launched to celebrate regional legacy and long-term daily tourism initiatives in Niigata. The creative project acts as a strategic precursor building toward the monumental 500th anniversary of the birth of legendary warlord Uesugi Kenshin in 2030. By illuminating Niigata’s historic Gangi—the distinct, covered wooden street architecture unique to the snowy region—with the warm, ambient glow of intricately designed bamboo lanterns, organizers aim to build an emotional connection across generations while revitalizing community bonds.
This special launch event features three extraordinary musical talents brought together to harmonize with the magical stage illumination. Performing on stage is Mihoko Henmi, an elite Tokyo University of the Arts harpist celebrated for her work supporting prominent industry figures like Ringo Shiina and performing for royal events; Izumi Okuwaki, a brilliant soprano who studied opera in Milan, Italy, and serves as a tourism ambassador; and Sato Hirari, a phenomenal blind singer-songwriter who gained international acclaim after performing the national anthem solo at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics opening ceremony. Together, their therapeutic instrumental textures and powerful vocal runs provide a beautiful auditory canvas beneath the soft, flickering light.
